The question of whether you should tell clients you use Chat GPT AI is one many writers are going to or have faced. Chat GPT can be a great writing tool, like anything else you use while writing, but it is not without issues or concerns. Here is my honest opinion on the subject of AI and copywriting transparency.
Firstly, it comes down to how much you are relying on AI to create your content. In other words, the difference is whether you started with original content and how much of the final content is still original. If you are just using Chat GPT to fine tune your writing and most of your writing is original then it’s not really necessary to disclose. On the other hand, if you are you getting all your content from prompts you are supplying to Chat GTP, then your writing is not original. To remain ethical in this scenario, using AI generated content would require transparency with your client or employer.
Secondly, the issue is whether your client or employer are onboard with Chat GPT content. Many in the content marketing arena are not comfortable with Chat GPT driven content. They are also concerned they will face penalties or scrutiny for plagiarized content. Consider this recent lawsuit involving Chat GPT content writing.
Final note
I believe you should only use AI to assist you in creating great content but not as a substitute. If you only produce, or solely rely on, AI content you are on the slippery slope of plagiarism. You will never truly be a special writer if you are mass producing what anyone else can. And you will be just as easily replaced.
